Friends of the Earth Action Congratulates Ben Jealous on Primary Victory

WASHINGTON, D.C. – This evening Ben Jealous won the primary to be the Democratic candidate for governor of Maryland. Friends of the Earth Action endorsed Jealous because of his lifelong commitment to the environment. In the run-up to the primary election, the organization spent six figures and engaged over 10,000 Marylanders to help support his campaign. Friends of the Earth Action will proudly continue supporting Jealous in the general election.

In response to tonight’s victory, Erich Pica, President of Friends of the Earth Action, issued the following statement:

Maryland needs Ben Jealous as Governor to protect our air and our water.  Friends of the Earth Action enthusiastically endorsed Jealous because of his lifelong dedication to social and environmental justice.  Throughout the primary, hundreds of thousands of people saw our ads and we directly engaged 10,000 Friends of the Earth Action members and democratic voters in support of Jealous.

The contrast between Gov. Hogan and Ben Jealous could not be starker. Maryland’s current Governor has put pipelines above people and refused to push back against Donald Trump’s attacks on our environment.

Tonight the Democratic voters of Maryland made it clear that Maryland is ready for a progressive leader like Ben Jealous and Friends of the Earth Action is committed to making sure that he wins in November.
