WASHINGTON, D.C. – Friends of the Earth Action today announced its endorsement of Roy Cooper (D-NC) for governor. Friends of the Earth Action President Erich Pica issued the following statement:
North Carolinians need a governor who understands the importance of a healthy environment to the well-being and prosperity of the state. Even more urgently, they need a leader who will safeguard their health by immediately restoring the integrity of the Dan River and by combating climate change.
In contrast, Cooper’s opponent, climate denier Pat McCrory, has been complicit with the coal industry, obstructed the Dan River cleanup and lied about it. Perhaps most threatening to the environment and our democracy is that under McCrory’s watch, climate change information — including the most basic acknowledgment of scientific proof — has been censored from the public eye.
Friends of the Earth Action strongly endorses Roy Cooper for governor and we urge North Carolinians to support him as well.
