Booker climate plan relies too much on failed and dangerous nuclear power

WASHINGTON – Senator and Presidential candidate Cory Booker unveiled his climate plan recently.

Nicole Ghio, Senior Fossil Fuels Program Manager at Friends of the Earth Action, issued the following statement in response:

Friends of the Earth Action applauds Senator Booker’s pledge to end fossil fuel extraction on public lands and waters and his commitment to ban new fossil fuel infrastructure. Senator Booker recognizes the disproportionate pollution burden faced by frontline and communities of color, and commits to ensuring all Americans have access to clean water and safe homes and schools.

Unfortunately, Senator Booker’s plan gives too much credence to dangerous false solutions like nuclear power. To solve the climate crisis, we must make massive investments in cheaper, cleaner, renewable energy, not prop up a failing industry that never delivered on its promises.
