Anthony Rogers-Wright joins Friends of the Earth Action Board of Directors

WASHINGTON, D.C.– Friends of the Earth Action is pleased to announce the appointment of Anthony Rogers-Wright to its Board of Directors.

Rogers-Wright is the Policy Coordinator and Green New Deal lead for the Climate Justice Alliance, a collaborative that unites frontline communities and organizations to organize and mobilize for a Just Transition away from extractive systems of production, consumption and political oppression, and towards resilient, regenerative and equitable economies.

“I am honored and so humbled to accept this opportunity to serve on the board of one the most influential and leading environmental/social justice organizations in the country,” said Rogers-Wright. “Friends of the Earth has been on the forefront of articulating the axiomatic nexus between climate and racial justice. Our incredible President Erich Pica first got my attention nearly six years ago when he announced not just a commitment to exercising solidarity with Black Lives Matter and other racial justice groups, but also a request to be held accountable – that really spoke to me and left a lasting impression. I look forward to assisting an already talented board and employee-driven organization with these goals as part of our larger goal of dismantling the climate crisis and the myriad injustices that contribute to it.”

“Anthony has a wonderful combination of energy and smart ideas coupled with experience helping nonprofit boards to integrate his ideas into political and electoral action,” said Ann Hoffman, Chairwoman of the Friends of the Earth Action Board of Directors.  “His pioneering work positing the ‘axiomatic nexus between the climate crisis and racial justice’ will help Friends of the Earth Action better integrate our justice and equity principles into our daily work.”

“Anthony has been a deep friend and ally of Friends of the Earth Action,” said Erich Pica, President of Friends of the Earth Action. “He brings deep connections and knowledge from the environmental and climate justice community as well as Democratic Party politics to our board of directors.  His insights and contributions will help Friends of the Earth Action push for the deep political change necessary to fight for a more healthy and just planet.”

Rogers-Wright leads with 15 years of social justice organizing, policy and outreach on environmental justice, affordable health care access, income inequality and civil rights for LGBTQIA persons. In 2012, Anthony led the effort to make Colorado Health Insurance Cooperative the first health insurance provider in the State’s history to remove transgender health exclusions from all their policies. A graduate of Clark University, Anthony earned undergraduate degrees in Environmental Science and Policy and Jazz Composition as well as his Graduate Degree in Community Development, Environmental Science and Public Policy. He regularly writes articles discussing the axiomatic nexus between the climate crisis and racial justice and had spoken at universities and gatherings throughout the United States and Europe.

Rogers-Wright joined the board effective June 26 and will serve a three-year term.
