Climate voters must reject Trump
Trump has made it abundantly clear that addressing the climate crisis is not a priority. Not only does Trump have a history of calling climate change a hoax, but he has even questioned the global scientific consensus on the matter.
During his first 100 days in office, Trump pulled the U.S. out of the Paris Agreement saying that staying in would put us at an economic disadvantage. Trump also disregarded the concerns of environmental justice communities and allowed the continued construction of both the Keystone XL Pipeline and the Dakota Access Pipeline that had been halted under the Obama Administration amid protests from Indigenous groups and environmental activists.
Throughout his disastrous tenure, Trump rolled back over 100 environmental rules, including federal safeguards aimed at addressing air and water pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. And that was just the beginning. Trump reportedly promised Big Oil executives earlier this year to roll back even more environmental protections in exchange for $1 billion to his campaign. In anticipation of a second term, the fossil fuel industry has already begun drafting executive orders for Trump to sign and undo the progress we’ve made under the Biden Administration.
Our climate wasn’t the only thing Trump jeopardized during his presidency. He was able to nominate three justices to the U.S. Supreme Court, which ultimately led to the overturning of Roe v. Wade and the end of the constitutional right to abortions. In 2020, Trump also thought it would be a good idea to shoot at Black Lives Matter protesters who were protesting the brutal murder of George Floyd. And now he’s publicly proclaiming his desire to lock-up political opponents should he be re-elected.
From befriending authoritarian leaders to his blatant racism ,xenophobia, and misogyny, we simply cannot afford another Trump presidency. And let’s not forget that Trump encouraged his supporters to storm the Capitol on January 6, 2021 in an attempt to overthrow the results of the 2020 election and to harm elected leaders including his own Vice President.
Moral of the story: Trump was terrible the first time around despite being unprepared, and he will be even worse in a second term now that he knows exactly what he wants to do and how to do it. We deserve better.
That is why we are thrilled to support Kamala Harris for President of the United States. Unlike Trump, we know she will fight for a healthy and just future for all.
This upcoming presidential election is crucial for fending off the advancement of fanatical views that ostracize marginalized communities, abandon those in economic need, and disregard the severity of the climate crisis.
Voters took to the polls, rebuking the Trump administration. The election was also a watershed moment that saw a new generation of leaders who will define the climate politics for a generation to come.
A coalition of national environmental groups today released an open letter to environmental voters urging them to vote for Harris-Walz.
A dozen leading national environmental advocacy organizations published an open letter today exposing the dangers of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s campaign for president amid his anti-environmental positions.
Trump’s attempted coup and election-denying rhetoric shows his sights are set on destroying American democracy. While the recent midterm election was a major setback for him and his extremist enablers, we should not rest easy.
