Trump attempts to gut NEPA

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Trump Administration is again taking action to weaken environmental protections. The Council on Environmental Quality’s (CEQ) expected new proposal undermines the bedrock protections afforded under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) by weakening the review process and allowing major infrastructure projects to ignore greenhouse emissions.

In response, Friends of the Earth Action senior policy analyst Lukas Ross issued the following statement:

This is a late holiday present from Trump to Big Oil. We call upon every contender for the 2020 democratic nomination to pledge now to reverse this action on day one of their administration. Communities on the frontlines of fossil fuel infrastructure need NEPA strengthened, and not gutted for the sake of polluters.
