Friends of the Earth Action endorses McKayla Wilkes, progressive candidate for Maryland’s 5th congressional district

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Friends of the Earth Action announced its endorsement today of McKayla Wilkes, a progressive candidate running against Steny Hoyer in Maryland’s 5^th congressional district.

Ariel Moger, political coordinator for Friends of the Earth Action, issued the following statement on behalf of the organization:

For far too long moderate and ineffectual Democratic leaders like Steny Hoyer have stalled progress on critical issues in favor of protecting corporate polluters. As our country grapples with coronavirus, Hoyer’s comment equating purchasing oil to help polluters with purchasing PPE to help hospitals is alarming and disqualifying.

With the climate crisis intensifying, we need elected leaders who will stand up to Big Oil and protect people and the planet. McKayla Wilkes is a progressive champion who will fight for the people of Maryland, our communities, and our environment. Friends of the Earth Action is proud to endorse her, and we urge the people of Maryland’s 5th congressional district to send her to Congress.
