Friends of the Earth Action applauds Gillibrand’s bold climate change plan

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator and presidential candidate Kirsten Gillibrand released her plan to tackle climate change today.

In response Nicole Ghio, senior fossil fuels program manager with Friends of the Earth Action, issued the following statement:

Friends of the Earth Action applauds Sen. Gillibrand for embracing a bold Green New Deal that ends our exploitation of fossil fuels — averting climate catastrophe and ensuring our economy works for everyone. By prioritizing frontline, rural and marginalized communities, opposing fracking and new fossil fuel leasing on public lands and waters and committing to end fossil fuel subsidies, Gillibrand has demonstrated her leadership on climate issues in 2020.

Sen. Gillibrand’s plan recognizes that it is not enough to transition to 100 percent renewable energy. Any plan to address climate change must end all fossil fuel production that supports exports, the proliferation of plastics and many dangerous practices. Her plan should stand as an example to other candidates.
