NY Democratic debate reveals stark difference in candidates’ climate leadership
WASHINGTON, D.C.— Last night’s Democratic debate between Sec. Hillary Clinton and Sen. Bernie Sanders saw the candidates spar over several environmental issues, and seemed to reveal a stark divide between their respective approaches to addressing the climate crisis.
Friends of the Earth Action President Erich Pica offers the following statement:
“Whether opposing the Keystone XL pipeline, opposing climate killing trade deals or supporting a carbon tax, Sen. Sanders continues to demonstrate an urgency to act on climate change. Sen. Sanders understands that we need to get dirty fossil fuel money out of politics, dramatically increase U.S. and global ambitions and to keep all fossil fuels in the ground. This is real climate leadership.”
Friends of the Earth Action endorsed Sanders for president in June 2015, and was the first environmental group to do so.
