Friends Of the Earth Action Responds to Biden Ending Re-Election Campaign
WASHINGTON – Today, President Biden announced he is dropping out of the 2024 Presidential race.
Erich Pica, President of Friends of the Earth Action, issued the following statement in response:
We thank President Biden for his decades of leadership and support the decision to end his re-election campaign. While far from perfect, Biden has taken some historic steps to address the climate crisis by passing the Inflation Reduction Act and kickstarting major investments in renewable energy.
What’s at stake in this election remains the same: Trump is an existential threat to our democracy and the planet and would guarantee a full descent into climate chaos. He is already threatening to roll back crucial environmental gains and is content to condemn us to an uninhabitable world.
Regardless of who the new Democratic nominee is, urgent climate action — backed by the majority of American voters — must continue to be a priority at the federal level. Whoever faces Trump this fall must be unwavering in their fight to hold Big Oil accountable, stop the expansion of fossil fuels and preserve democracy over fascism at all costs.
