Bernie Sanders releases ambitious plan that matches scale and scope of climate crisis
WASHINGTON – Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders released his climate plan today.
Nicole Ghio, Fossil Fuels Program Manager for Friends of the Earth Action, issued the following statement in response:
Bernie Sanders’ climate plan is paradigm shifting. His $16 trillion-dollar public investment in fighting the climate crisis is commensurate with the threat we face. The plan outlines how we will build a better world for our workers and communities by transforming our economy, investing in renewables, and unequivocally phasing out fossil fuels.
We are pleased to see Sanders forcefully stand up to the fossil fuel industry and commit to prosecuting them for their crimes against people and the planet. He recognizes the United States’ role as the world’s largest historic emitter, and establishes targets for U.S. leadership in working with other countries to cut emissions in line with what the science demands, a first for any candidate. We are already in a climate emergency, and only a plan of this scope and scale will be enough to stop the worst of the crisis. Sanders’ plan is the standard that all other candidates will be judged by.
