Pushing Ben Jealous Forward
As the federal government reverses American environmental progress, Friends of the Earth Action is focusing its attention on progressive candidates who can bring about real climate action. Ben Jealous is one of those candidates.
In September 2017, Friends of the Earth Action endorsed former NAACP president Ben Jealous for governor of Maryland. His background lobbying for social justice, clean water and clean energy makes him the ideal candidate to lead Maryland and push back against Donald Trump’s attacks on our environment. Jealous is also backed by progressive champions like Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt. and Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif.
Our members stepped up to support Jealous, contacting over 10,000 Maryland voters and urged them to head to the polls for the primary — and it made all the difference.
Friends of the Earth Action also spent six figures to help support his campaign.
The Democratic voters of Maryland made it clear that they are ready for a progressive leader: Jealous won the June 2018 Democratic primary by 10 percentage points.
Maryland needs a governor who will protect its water, air and future generations. While Gov. Larry Hogan is putting pipelines above people and ignoring Trump’s attacks, Jealous has campaigned on climate justice and shown that he will truly champion the people of Maryland.
Friends of the Earth Action and our amazing members got Ben Jealous through the primary — and now we’re one step closer to having an environmental champion lead Maryland.
