FOE Action endorses Gov. Maggie Hassan for U.S. Senate

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Friends of the Earth Action today announced its endorsement of New Hampshire Governor Maggie Hassan for U.S. Senate. Hassan (D-N.H.) is running against Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.).

Friends of the Earth Action President Erich Pica issued the following statement:

We need Gov. Maggie Hassan in the U.S. Senate as a strong advocate for the environment and green energy, greater enforcement of voting rights, and just transition for workers. Hassan has shown incredible leadership through her sponsorship of New Hampshire’s original Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, and her work to pass the state’s Renewable Portfolio Standard. As a state senator and governor, Hassan has fought the same fights as Friends of the Earth Action. Gov. Hassan will be a leader on climate & environmental issues.

New Hampshire needs an environmental leader in the Senate, not a senator that remembers environmental issues every six years. Gov. Hassan is that leader and Friends of the Earth Action proudly endorses her.

Gov. Hassan responded to the endorsement:

I am honored to have earned the endorsement of the Friends of Earth Action. Here in New Hampshire our natural resources define us as a state, and we are taking action to support clean energy alternatives and curb the devastating effects of climate change. Meanwhile, Senator Kelly Ayotte has stood with corporate special interests such as Big Oil at the expense of our environment, including voting with the Koch Brothers nearly 90% of the time in her first four years in office. In the Senate, I will work to build on the efforts we’re taking in New Hampshire to combat climate change and achieve a clean energy future where our citizens, our economy, and our environment can thrive.
