DNC bows under pressure from fossil fuel interests and flunkies, fails to call for climate debate
SAN FRANCISCO – Today the Resolutions Committee of the DNC failed to move a resolution forward to the Democratic National Committee Executive Committee (DNC) endorsing a presidential debate on climate change, rejecting the demands of climate activists from across the country to create a real presidential climate debate.
Erich Pica, President of Friends of the Earth Action, issued the following statement in response:
The DNC and Biden’s advisor Symone Sanders have failed an important climate leadership test. All the climate resolutions and platitudes are essentially meaningless without a DNC sanctioned climate debate to engage the country. It is especially concerning to see Biden’s senior advisor lobbying to stop conversation on climate change.
Americans are demanding to know where the Democratic candidates stand on climate change. Unfortunately, Tom Perez and the DNC capitulated to fossil fuel interests and are afraid to have a full-throated conversation about what addressing the climate crisis truly means. As long as fossil fuel interests have sway over the DNC, the Democratic Party will continue to delay real action on the climate crisis until it’s too late.
