PAC’s West Virginia Manchin TV ad undercuts environment, resistance to Trump

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Majority Forward, a political action committee closely associated with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and affiliated super PAC Senate Majority PAC, purchased $4.5 million in advertising to support Sen. Joe Manchin (D –W.V.), according to reports from E&E News. The ad, which aired in West Virginia Monday, touts Manchin’s attacks on Obama-era regulations that protected public health and the environment.

In response, Erich Pica, President of Friends of the Earth Action, issued the following statement:

As the Trump Administration continues its devastating war against public health and the environment, it is troubling to see Democratic leaders normalizing Trump and his extreme agenda. With this ad, a PAC affiliated with Minority Leader Schumer has undermined our fight to protect clean air and clean water.

Democratic leadership needs to recognize that the American people are clamoring for candidates who embrace a progressive vision for the future of our country. Instead, this ad communicates to voters that the party is more interested in protecting moderate incumbents, no matter the long term costs. Majority Forward is out of touch with the millions of Americans who have taken to the streets across the country to resist Trump.
