FOE Action endorses Rep. Chris Van Hollen for U.S. Senate

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Friends of the Earth Action today announced its endorsement of Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen, representative for Maryland’s 8th congressional district, in his campaign for U.S. Senate.

Friends of the Earth Action President Erich Pica issued the following statement:

Chris Van Hollen is exactly the type of thoughtful champion for energy and the environment we need in the U.S. Senate.  He understands the peril of climate change and the urgent need for global and local action on many fronts, including revitalizing the Chesapeake Bay. His holistic approach to sustainable energy independence embraces protecting workers, a vital component of a just transition to a clean energy economy. Van Hollen has shown his commitment to the environmental justice movement time and again, while also being well-respected on both sides of the aisle.

In addition, Van Hollen is a vocal and tireless opponent of Citizens United; sponsored the Empowering Citizens Act to reform the campaign finance system; and is a leading supporter of the Government By the People Act to increase the impact of small donations in campaigns. Van Hollen also works to end the crucial threat to our democracy of political district gerrymandering. Friends of the Earth Action stands at the intersection of environmental, social, economic and racial justice, and we are thrilled to stand with Van Hollen on these issues.
