Friends of the Earth Action endorses Donna Edwards for Senate

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Friends of the Earth Action announces its endorsement of Rep. Donna Edwards, in her bid to represent Maryland in the Senate.

“In looking at what Maryland and the country needs in the U.S. Senate, Friends of the Earth Action enthusiastically endorses Rep. Donna Edwards,” said Friends of the Earth Action President Erich Pica. “She is a deeply committed champion of the environment and social justice. As we fight against some of the most powerful polluting interests on the planet, we believe that Donna will join progressive leaders in the Senate like Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders in most effectively fighting for a healthier, just and more equitable world.”

As an African American, single mother, Donna would bring badly needed experience and perspective to the U.S. Senate and her advocacy and reputation in fighting corporate power is well-known and well earned. The people of Maryland have two great choices to vote for in the Democratic primary to fill the seat of retiring Sen. Barbara Mikulski, but having Donna’s voice in the Senate and knowledge of environmental issues will help galvanize new and powerful voices to the environmental fight.

“I am thrilled to receive the endorsement of Friends of the Earth Action my campaign for Senate,” said Rep. Donna Edwards. “From our fights to protect the Clean Air Act and improve the health of the Chesapeake Bay, Friends of the Earth Action understands the link between economic, environmental and social justice, and that our most vulnerable communities are made more so by irresponsible politicians and corporations who gamble with our planet’s future. I look forward to continuing my work with the devoted members of this organization as we strive to improve our environment for all.”
